# Chet Mancini

I build platforms for AI-native software.

Chet Mancini builds platforms for AI-native software. Essays, projects, and notes on agentic engineering, data systems, and engineering leadership.

## Current work

Technical Director, Platform Engineering at [Norm Ai](https://www.norm.ai), New York. I lead platform engineering and the SRE and cloud infrastructure team. My work supports our engineers, the agents they build, and the banks and asset managers who use them.

## Now

I'm optimistic about what happens when execution gets cheap. Most of what I write is about that: agentic engineering, platform design, and leading teams through the change.

## Advisory

I advise startups and people looking for startup roles. I’m also open to angel investments.

## Projects

- [Tubeless](https://tubeless.io): Pipelines and agents, built from TypeScript functions.
- [Agent Smith](https://github.com/chetmancini/agent-smith): Evidence-based tuning for coding agents.
- [Script Bible](https://script.bible): Bible study with semantic search.

## Writing

- [An Easier Way to Consider the CAP Theorem](https://chetmancini.com/writing/an-easier-way-to-consider-the-cap-theorem.md): CAP is usually taught as "pick two of three." A more useful framing is a single question — when the network partitions, does your system keep consistency or availability?
- [Three Learnings from Real World Large-Scale Machine Learning](https://chetmancini.com/writing/three-learnings-from-real-world-large-scale-machine-learning.md): Notes from tuning production segmentation and quality-score models at Intent Media after moving logistic regression to Spark MLlib on EMR.
- [The Art of Abstraction for Engineers](https://chetmancini.com/writing/the-art-of-abstraction-for-engineers.md): A visit to the Cooper Hewitt and the Free Universal Construction Kit, and what connector pieces between toy systems teach about designing abstractions between software systems.
- [Data Visualization: How to Make a Really Bad Graph](https://chetmancini.com/writing/data-visualization-how-to-make-a-really-bad-graph.md): A tongue-in-cheek guide to the common traps in chart design — multiple y-axes, unnatural intercepts, mismatched scales, ratios, and the obligatory linear trendline.
