Thebes

A small lambda architecture for realtime data.

Pen sketch of the pyramids of Giza and the Nile beside the word Thebes, on warm paper.

What it’s for

Thebes is a lambda architecture small enough to read in an afternoon. The 2013 version sketched the design on Storm and RabbitMQ. The 2026 rewrite finishes it in modern Clojure: one master dataset, a batch layer, and a speed layer that stay in agreement.

Batch and speed, merged

Views are monoids, so the batch layer can fold the log in parallel and the serving layer can merge that result with the speed layer's partial views. The merged answer matches a full recompute, and a property test checks it. The demo runs a flood season down the Nile and draws the dashboard from the query API.
